Finding the group's archive unavailable, I found it necessary to find
an answer through a new post.

I happened to close the Oblivion gate near Cheydinhal nefore talking
to the ruler; now after I am done, the ruler won't talk to me because
he is awaiting his son who had gone into the date. I can't find the
person who is supposed to handle the affairs in place of the ruler.

Anybody who has run across that problem or can suggest a resolution?
Unfortunately, I have no recent save prior to entering the gate and I
would not want to repeat the experience.

Best wishes for all the users and readers,
Hurol Aslan

The son was inside the gate. Didn't you rescue him? Bad luck :-) The
person you had to talk to is the boss of the guards outside the gate.

You probably closed the wrong gate; Farwil is scripted to come out as
soon as the appropriate gate is closed, even if you never saw or spoke
to him inside the gate. If you closed the wrong gate, find the right
one and talk to the guards standing near it to continue this quest.
If you did close the right gate, find and talk to Farwil (he'll be
waiting where the gate was) and he'll tell you to meet the count
again.

You probably closed the wrong gate;
Oh, yup, that's possible of course. Sometimes more than one gate opens
near a city, but the "specific" city gate is always on the same spot...

Thanks for the responses. For some reason, I did not see my posted
message and the responses until now. In the meantime, I happened to
stroll around the city and found the proper gate.

But, here is an interesting point: If not finding Count's son inside
the gate helps him survive the whole ordeal, then maybe the players
should simply leave him where he is instead of dragging him around and
getting him killed (like me). For some reason, none of the hint pages
suggest this approach.

Best wishes for everyone,

Having tried that approach, I can say that it is extremely difficult
to through to close the gate without encountering the pretentious brat.

It worked for me the first time by merely lava walking past the closed
gate. The second time the gate was open even though I didnt throw any
switches. There was no way to avoid him at that point.
