I've finally gotten round to getting to the end of the Morrowind main quest,
and am a bit stuck. I've met Vivec and received the plan from him, and
apparently I have to go and look round inside the Ghostfence then kill some
Ash Vampires. All well and good, but where exactly am I supposed to go?

I happen to have looked on a walkthrough, and got some info on where each
one is, but I have no idea how I was supposed to work out where each Vampire
lived for myself. Have I missed something? The only thing I can think of
is that I was supposed to speak to someone and haven't.

Vivec t old you to consult with the commander at Ghostgate, who would
give you some more clues.

I'm at Ghostgate, but I'm not really sure who I need to speak to. I have
spoken with the leaders of the Buoyant Armigers and some senior Temple
people, but they all seem to say generic things.

I believe it's Galdal Omayn you should talk to, or possibly one of the
other Bouyant Armigers. He should give you a map of Red Mountain, with
several citadels indicated. These are the locations of most, though
not all, of the Dagoths. The ones not on the map are in Kogoruhn,
where you've already been, and in Mamaea, which you would probably
only find by doing the quest for Hassour Zainsubani.

Hmm...can't seem to find anyone who will give me a map. I'm inside
Ghostfence at the moment, gonna go to Vivec again and speak to him. Maybe I
can trigger the whole quest properly. Thanks for your help though

main quest, and am a bit stuck. I've met Vivec and received the

I happen to have looked on a walkthrough, and got some info on where
each one is, but I have no idea how I was supposed to work out where

You don't actually have to kill all seven of the Ash Vampires,
although you will need to kill three of them - two, at least, to get
the items Vivec has told you you require: and another one will present
himself to you later on in a place that you can't exactly avoid going
through.

For two more, their lairs can be found inside the Ghostfence and they
guard good stuff. A late-on Tribunal Temple quest requires an item
from one of the lairs (although not from the boss). Another one
doesn't actually need to be visited at all.

One, you may have already encountered earlier while proving yourself
to Sul-Matuul of the Urshilaku (when he asked you to enter a certain
Sixth House fortress and bring back certain items, as tokens that you
could handle yourself in a fight against serious opposition from the
cult): if you killed everything in that fortress you will have
encountered him, but it's possible that you could have gotten all the
required items and gotten the hell out of there without meeting him.
If you didn't, then at some point while exploring the Red Mountain
Region you'll find the back entrance to the fortress.

The last ash vampire is entirely outside the Ghostfence, in a cave
that a minor quest may take you to - albeit a minor quest involving a
character who is related (quite literally) to someone you met in the
Main Quest. Again, you might not meet him while on this minor quest,
or you might.

Jonathan.
